Chuck Taft
Chuck Taft is a dynamic music director, conductor, and performer based in Western North Carolina, where he engages in a wide array of musical endeavors. His work spans theater and opera music direction, orchestral and choral conducting, vocal and piano performance, and music ministry. In academia, Chuck focuses on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical benefits of choral participation for older adults, aiming to use his research to enrich practice and enhance parishioners’ lives.
Central to all of Chuck’s work is his guiding principle of "people over process," a commitment to prioritizing individual needs above organizational demands. Grounded in this philosophy, he seamlessly transitions between classrooms, sanctuaries, and rehearsal spaces, bringing joy and helping others find meaning and expression through music.
Education
Chuck earned his Master of Music - Music and Worship degree specializing in conducting from Lee University (Cleveland, TN) in 2018. Prior to that, he studied Choral Conducting and Voice at Mars Hill University and received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Carolina University. His masters work focused on the aging choral voice and the future of aging church choirs.
Personal
Chuck and Renee find boundless joy and inspiration in their three children, Ceili, Lillie, and Gabriel, who continually fill their lives with laughter, curiosity, and warmth. When Chuck isn't busy with work, he loves diving into a good book, kicking a soccer ball around, and letting the soothing melodies of the piano transport him to a calm place.
For Chuck and Renee, time spent together as a family is the heart of their happiness and greatest motivation source.
