While I Still Have Breath - Reuter Center Singers

  • 1st Presbyterian Church 40 Church Street Asheville, NC, 28801 United States (map)

“While I Still Have Breath” tells a story of embracing aging with our heads held high, our eyes wide open, and eager to see what new opportunities lay just around the next corner. Whether singing with full fanfares (Fanfare for a Festival), quiet petitions (Borning Cry), or bold statements of action (We Shall Overcome), we sing as if our life depends upon it - because it does.

This concert, the combined effort of over 120 singers from three different choirs (Reuter Center Singers, Givens Estates Vesper Choir, and Biltmore UMC Choir) singing songs that span four centuries, will be accompanied by brass, cello, flute, percussion, piano, and pipe organ. Guided by conductor Chuck Taft, listeners and performers alike will immerse themselves in ancient and contemporary texts, carefully set to music, pointing towards a time when, as the final song of the program proclaims: All Shall Be Amen and Alleluia!
